Pretoria - Aerial Vision Africa (Pty) Ltd announces the appointment of two new members of its Board of Directors.
Joining the Board of Directors are Tony Frost and Dries Ferreira. “Both of our new Board members embody the spirit of community and bring talent, expertise and energy to the table. We are very fortunate to have them by our side as we continue to develop the vision and strategy of Aerial Vision Africa”, Dean Polley, Chief Executive Officer.
Tony Frost is a fifth generation South African; educated at Queen’s College, Queenstown and at the Universities of Natal, Cape Town and Wits. He represented South Africa at athletics and was for many years a senior commentator for SA TV on athletics with a highlight being the opportunity to commentate on the Atlanta Olympics. He is a keen photographer, was a private pilot and is passionate about the natural heritage of our Planet, particularly South Africa.
After spending five years in a board level marketing position, he worked as Human Resources Director for 20 years and has served on various boards including 11 years on the board of National Airways Corporation and is still very involved at many levels in the Aviation Industry.
He founded his own company Sirocco Strategic Management in 1997 to specialise in assisting organisations to design and implement their strategies. Sirocco has a strong focus on integrated sustainability.
Tony has delivered presentations at conferences and facilitates workshops, both locally and internationally, on the subject of leadership, governance and strategies in business and, in particular, the importance of people in making these work. He uses the invaluable lessons of our natural heritage to bring these presentations alive, to illustrate the points made, to emphasise the critical state of our Planet and the role that people and organisations can play in fixing it. He applies these same principles in his coaching assignments, both individual and collective.
He has published books on the subject of organisations and leadership entitled “After the Rain”, and “Flight at Dawn”; has new books in the pipeline; writes regular columns on leadership issues for regional newspapers; and regularly talks on these topics on radio.
Tony served two terms as President of the Institute of Personnel Management (Southern Africa) (1991 & 1992), then the largest professional human resource management body in Africa. He chaired the Board of Governors of the International School of South Africa (1990 – 1995). He was a member of the Advisory Board of the Wits University School of Business Administration and the Global Forum of the International Society for Human Resource Management. He has served as a member of the Minister of Environmental Affairs Advisory Forum (NEAF), the JSE Sustainability Index Advisory Committee, and the NBI Sustainable Futures Advisory Board. For 5 years until February 2007 he was the Chief Executive of the WWF in South Africa, was on the WWF Global Operations Executive, the WWF Global Conservation Programme Committee, the Percy Fitzpatrick Advisory Board, Chair of the Southern African Wildlife College, the Board of the South African National Biodiversity Institute and Chair of its Governance and Strategy Committee, Advisory Board of the Global Change Institute of the University of the Witwatersrand.
Tony was a key member of the team that created a strategy with the aim of elevating the quality of education in the Queenstown district and was appointed CEO of the Queenstown Education Foundation (QEF) in 2013. This project has the capacity to change the educational experience of some 100,000 learners from very disadvantaged backgrounds. He initiated and organises an annual fund-raising cycle tour from Johannesburg to Queenstown (850 kilometres) to create a legacy fund to provide financial support to deserving pupils. He has ridden the tour seven times himself.
Dries Ferreira completed his schooling at Andrew Rabie High School, Port Elizabeth. His tertiary education started in the Eastern Cape where he completed his BCom (Honours) degree in Accounting at the University of Port Elizabeth (now Nelson Mandela University).
As a keen sportsman Dries started his early career as a semi-professional cyclist representing South Africa on the international stage before settling into a formal corporate career where he started as an accountant working for PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc. (“PwC”) in South Africa and Montreal, Canada.
After completing his articles with PwC he progressed his education by qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) before attending Harvard Business School in Boston, USA where he successfully completed the Programme for Leadership Development.
Dries started his management career in the polymer-products manufacturing industry and soon moved into larger challenges where he fulfilled the role of Chief Financial Officer and executive board member of JSE listed companies (logistics, manufacturing, services, property sectors).
With more than 13 years of corporate experience Dries ventured into starting WellCapital, a company with its main focus to establish integrity, governance and real insight around sustainable business performance and assisting management teams to access next-level growth.
Dries is a father of four young boys and in his spare time a member of the management teams of various philanthropic organisations focusing on elevating the quality of education in rural areas as well as the spiritual wellness of people.
